Remarks by MOFA Spokesperson Le Hai Binh on Taiwan’s press tour to Ba Binh (Itu Aba) Island

In response to reporters’ queries on Viet Nam’s reaction to Taiwan's press tour to Ba Binh (Itu Aba) Island in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago of Viet Nam, on 24 March 2016, MOFA Spokesperson Le Hai Binh stated:

Viet Nam has sufficient historical and legal grounds to assert its indisputable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Archipelagos. All actions by any other party in these areas without Viet Nam’s permission are null and void.

That Taiwan, disregarding the concern and objection by Viet Nam and the international community, organizing the press tour to Ba Binh Island in Viet Nam’s Truong Sa Archipelago is a serious violation of Viet Nam’s sovereignty. This action escalates tension and does harm to peace and stability in the East Sea as well as relations between the two sides.

We resolutely oppose and request Taiwan to respect Viet Nam’s sovereignty, avoid recurrence of actions that escalate tension and complicate the East Sea situation, and practically contribute to the joint efforts to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea.”
